Inexpensive Outdoor Toys
When my kids are outside I often forget to put sunscreen on them (Face palm) Yup not a perfect mom here. So before I get into all these, I am just going to throw a reminder to be sure you sunscreen your kids. Burns are not the route you want to take this summer!
I bought a pool for the kids this year. It was one of the inflatable ones that is only like a foot deep when you put water up to the fill line. The kids LOVE it! When it has water in it they are outside most of the day without complaints to heat.
Swim suits you must have
I put swim suits like these on my kids to insure no sunburns, They prevent most of them and I would say mom to mom if you don’t have them, get some. They are so worth it. Plus they are super cute!
Anyway back to the pool.
I have had some cons to using it, and that is wet kids all day long! I’m talking once I change them to dry clothing five minutes later…wet clothing. I have about a half a bathtub of wet clothing a day with just my two boys playing in it. Although If you have older kids in it you will be able to explain to be sure they can only swim in a bathing suit.
Another con is location. If you have lawn you plan to place it on, be sure to move it once a day. (a lot of filling and emptying) otherwise it will kill the lawn its sitting on. I would recommend putting it on a patio of some sort.
Side note- Always be where you can watch them. A drowned child is not worth it!
These are almost a must have with little boys, and they are inexpensive. They are great to have a lot of when you have a family gathering.
They are inexpensive
they keep the kids entertained for a longer period of time
Fill a bucket and the hose wont be on so much
With our family they tend to break, possibly because they are used so often.
Smaller kids use these as a weapon to hit each other rather then spray water.
Slip N’ Slide
What is a summer without one of these gems! I bet you can remember playing on these as a kid. I put the normal one of here, but when I was growing up my dad would always make our own. They are better in so many ways like…
1- They don’t tear as easy.
2- They are wider so more kids can go at once. Or use an inner tube.
3- They seem to last longer.
4- Once you are done using it as a slip n’ slide you can use it for yard work or whatever you want to use it for.
It tends to get really hot because its black.
You have to buy the stakes separate.
It will kill the lawn if not moved occasionally.
Otter pops and water
So if you have these few items and a bag of otter pops then you are all set. Water is key to keeping your kids happy and hydrated this summer. Most of these things are based around what my toddlers have fun using. Older kids have had fun with these as well but have a shorter attention span when it comes to a shallow pool ha. Be sure to spend some outdoor time with them too, they are only little once and these moments wont last.
