As a mom I know we all feel the need to put our children first. In some cases this means to be a working mother. They are amazing! And sometime this means we want to be home with our kids and take care of their daily needs ourselves. Stay at home moms are amazing too! I think each play the mom card (working or SAHM) that is necessary in each individual circumstance.
In this post I am going to try to focus a little more towards the stay at home mom because that is who I can relate to most. I know I want to be home with my kids. That’s what they need right now. And if your like me you are asking yourself how. How can I stay home, take care of my kids, and help with the bills?
I can tell you right now that I am not a fan of surveys! I have tried multiple sites. They simply take too much time and effort away from my kids. And they pay pennies! So lets just throw that out the window right now and get to the stuff that will actually work!
Here are a few ways I have actually tried and succeeded in bringing a little side money to the table.
At home jobs for moms
I am putting this first because I know every mom can’t do it. It requires a babysitter. If your like me that can be stressful all in itself. However if you have a babysitter this can be a little gold mine! I worked at housekeeping since I was 15 and now that I have a little experience I can charge $25 and hour easy. I usually tried to do no more than 4 hours so I wasn’t away from the kiddos too long.
It can really be a fast way to make some cash:) Please if you do this one, always partner up. It can be a bit risky venturing into a strangers home by yourself.
You do this task at least once a week right? Why not get paid for it? This one has been my favorite. (except blogging;) And that’s because I get to stay home with my kids. It doesn’t pay too bad either. I am able to charge $5 per load and have them supply the
soap. You may wonder how I got into finding clients, well let me just say that Facebook indoor yard sale pages are amazing! I place my add on there and people in my area see that someone else can do their laundry. I do pick up and drop off ( it helps my clients out a lot.)
If you decide to do this, make sure you run the washer through a clean cycle between clients. It helps it stay lots cleaner. And BONUS you get to stay home with your kids!
3- Child Care.
There are so many mothers out there who would rather another mom watch their kids than a day care. This is where you come in. I have always liked the idea that I can give a child so much more time and attention than a busy day care can and get paid for it.This business can give your kids other friends and playmates, and you can help another mother out. It can be so fulfilling. You get to stay home with your little ones too.
I wouldn’t try to take on too many kids at once. Start small. Then build up. Otherwise you could get total burnout and not be giving those kids, or your own, the time and attention they need.
I am still a newbie at the whole blogging game. But I do KNOW it can bring in some pretty nice side cash. I love blogging! It has become a discovered passion these last few months. There are so many supportive moms out there who blog, and make more than a decent living. ( Even more than their husbands bring in.) I dream of someday bringing in enough that my husband doesn’t have to work unless he wants too. I know this is totally attainable. This is one I think you should consider the most. Study up on it. There are countless pinterest pins and post to give you all the info on making money blogging.
See how I have made money in my second month of blogging here.
If you decide to take the plunge (so worth it) I wouldn’t recommend anyone else except Suzie at startamomblog.com, her E-book and her blog by number course is the best! She takes you through every step you possibly need to start a mom blog from home. She is amazing.
These are just a few that have worked great for me. I know that I have only scratched the surface when it comes to stay at home jobs, so here are a few more ideas to get your brain wheels turning:)
At home jobs for moms.
If you are good with a sewing machine than this could be a financial life savor for your family. I know a couple mothers who make a really good amount just sewing for companies from home. Some of the time a company will advertise on a Facebook yard sale sight for stay at home moms who need extra income, you can snatch these up if your lucky. I haven’t ever been super savvy with sewing, but if you love doing it, keep your eye out, or advertise that you are looking. You will be surprised what can come up.
You can always work for yourself and not a company as well, making blankets starting a baby clothing boutique or something. I know sewing can work from home. I have personally seen it.
6- Furniture flipping
This one can be super fun. If you love to DIY than you will soak in flipping furniture. Basically if you get an old piece of furniture for free off a site or find one for cheap in a thrift store than you can sand it down and repaint or stain or reupholster and flip it for extra cash. I have met ladies who make thousands a month just flipping furniture. It can be a pretty nifty side job to bring in the extra money you may need.
Be sure to take the time to study up on fixing up furniture, I know there are certain ways to do this right. It could be a fun thing to study into if nothing else.
7- Yard sale flipping
I have seen my sister do this and it is awesome to watch!! She will pay out a little money and double or even triple what she paid into the item and make a nice profit. Here is how… You really need a good eye to find things you know you can buy low and sell high. Things like Mirrors, Furniture, Baby clothes, etc. The wonderful thing about yard sales,is that most people who do them, really just want to get rid of their junk. One mans junk is another mans treasure right? In most cases you can easily drive the price down to what you want to pay simply because they just want it gone. Once you have purchased your items you can flip them for profit on the Facebook indoor yard sale pages.
If you can’t already tell, I am a huge fan of Facebook yard sale pages. They are so convenient in so many ways. And can be a huge blessing. If you haven’t looked up the ones in your area, you should. I think you would find them super helpful!
8- Instrument lessons
If you have talent in playing an instrument, perhaps consider sharing your talent and teaching younger children, or adults even to play themselves. I know most teachers start pay at about $40 a month per student. ( this price varies) but get yourself 10 students at an hour a lesson once a week for a month comes to roughly $1,600 a month. Super cool!
I know that some of these Job ideas don’t bring in thousands, However I would say that most of them (if done correctly) can easily bring in an extra $100 a week. And what mom can’t use an extra $400 a month right? If anything it could pay for diapers and wipes and maybe help a little with the groceries.
At home jobs for moms that haven’t worked for me
These are a few ideas that haven’t worked well for me.I try to focus on ways to bring in money where I can have my kids with me.
Call centers, are something I can’t do with my little ones,( my kids are to distracting and noisy.
I have tried MLMs (multi level marketing)and advise to stay away. ( They take your money more than they give it.)
Some moms sell makeup, I think this is awesome! Although, if your a little introverted like myself, it can be tough.
If these ways have worked for you I give you a huge round of applause, because you are amazing for making these work for you!
What other ways have you as a SAHM brought in some extra side cash?
